I am sitting down to figure out my taper. Coach says to drop it to 60 miles this week? My book puts me at another tough week of 80 miles before I taper? When do you typically start your taper?

i start to taper two weeks out. three weeks out is usually one of my biggest weeks of training, then i'll drop the mileage the next week but keep up the intensity (and run one midlong of 13-15 miles). one week out, it's a big drop. all easy runs with one sharpener workout (5k or 5kish workout), and very few miles, with a couple of days off.

i personally think a three week taper is too long, but it all depends how you are feeling and if you think one more big week will be beneficial. if there is any feeling at all that it will be detrimental, err on the side of caution. it's always better to go in a little under trained than a little over. but if you are still feeling good -- "good" being a relative term, as i know you are tired at this point, but if you are still feeling strong and healthy, i would keep the switch "on" for one more week.

Awesome!!! I am going with that then! Putting my game face on and hoping for a good solid week to wrap up my training! I am doing 20 tomorrow with 18 20 sec. off marathon pace(6:50 if possible). I really hope I can hold it and feel "good."
